Angela Rossen is both an artist and a biodiversity educator. As well as her studio practice, she has worked with marine biologists in the School of the Biological Sciences at UWA for fifteen years as a science communicator. She also holds the position of Adjunct Artist with the Australian Institute of Marine Science. Whilst working alongside her scientific colleagues Angela has created an opus of artworks on near shore marine biodiversity. Her work can be seen on her website www.angelarossen.com
Angela designs and delivers biodiversity festivals and events with schools and communities throughout metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australia.
Her projects bring children, their families and their wider communities out into nature to discover, observe and record the living things in their own environment. Using the tools of both art and science she finds exciting ways to grow curiosity and a greater understanding of our shared environment.
As Artist in Residence with The Heritage Collective, Angela will be inviting with people from all walks of life throughout the community, local schools, disability support organisations and the resident community at Curtin Heritage Living to take part in a program of exciting events over the coming months.
Throughout the events participants will undertake a biodiversity survey of the plants and animals of the coast and near shore marine environment. This will include field days with naturalist and conservation organisations, nature studies painting and photography workshops, incursions and excursions with schools, presentations by specialists on the complexity and beauty of the marine and coastal environment, family discovery mornings on the beach and community biodiversity survey field events. The residency will conclude with a survey exhibition of nature studies created by the participants documenting all the living things of the coastal environment.
