ELLE CAMPBELL

Meet Elle Campbell, our new artist-in-residence, whose work is as bold and vibrant as the coastal landscapes of her childhood in Dandaragan. Surrounded by sweeping views to Lancelin, Elle developed an instinctive, tactile connection to nature that still drives her artistic practice today.

Art has always been Elle’s language. Early travels and stints as a makeup artist expanded her palette and sense of colour, while studying Fashion and Textile Design at home, and coping with personal loss, deepened her devotion to creation. The result? Works that blend playful abstraction, fluid lines, and daring bursts of colour on silk and linen, full of life and emotion.

Elle thrives in the process—the experimenting, the layering, the texture—and finds joy in the ritual of creation. Guided by intuition and a deep sense of spirituality, her work feels raw, authentic, and unrestrained, inviting viewers into her world with energy and intimacy.

With cloth, paint, and fearless imagination, Elle Campbell’s residency promises to be a celebration of colour, texture, and the joy of creating something entirely new.

Visit Elle in her studio in the Makerspace every Friday between 2.00pm - 3.00pm.

Desmond Sweeney

Muralist Desmond Sweeney was our artist-in-residence from August - November 2025.

Raised on the northern beaches of Sydney with a love for sea, surfing, and painting landscapes, Des now resides in Fremantle with his partner and fellow creative, Dee Tang, and their children.

Des's experience includes five years at the Sydney Opera House, where he created sets for Opera Australia. He has also taught special effects props painting, portraiture, and scenic painting at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA). In 2013, Des founded the mural company 8footwalls, drawing on his vast background of experiences that have enhanced his expertise in related disciplines, including mural painting, faux effects, airbrushing, and illustration.

Currently, Des produces original paintings and marouflage wallcoverings for companies nationally and mural projects internationally.  He is excited to create large-scale works here at The Heritage Collective with inspiring views out to the Indian Ocean. We are delighted to have Des as part of our community and look forward to introducing him and his wonderful work to you.

One of his most celebrated pieces is a life-sized rendering of Tricia, a beloved elephant who lived at Perth Zoo. This remarkable artwork was created during the Fremantle Arts Centre’s exhibition Animaze: Amazing Animals for Kids in 2018 and is now permanently displayed at Dunsborough’s Yungarra Gallery.

Ross has exhibited his work in venues such as the Fremantle Biennale and the Boola Bardip WA Museum and has held numerous artist residencies, including in Cossack, Margaret River, and Herhùsid in Iceland.
